Early 20th Century
Depicting a bear over a frog. We especially like the clever way the bared teeth are stylistically carved. In the typical Northwest Coast traditional colors of red and black. This piece appears to be by the same hand as another comb in our collection - that comb has a tag attached, from Ye Olde Curiosity Shop in Seattle, Washington with a price of $6.50! Those were the days.
A strikingly similar comb that was auctioned by Sotheby's in 2015 for $5,000 can be seen here.

The eagle has a frog in its claws which is “holding” a whale.
This comb was purchased out of the same collection and appears to be of the same vintage and by the same hand as the NWC bear comb on our website.
We believe this comb was created by the same hand as the sold NWC bear comb.
This comb has a price tag from The Olde Curiosity Shop in Seattle, Washington which was established in 1899.
