The Yoruba believe each person’s character is determined by the essential nature.

The blue pigment that enhances this figure’s features is Reckitt’s bluing, a British-made laundry detergent that the Yoruba often applied to their sculptures instead of indigo. The prominently-displayed button is a WWII British Army Officer’s general service button. The eight coins attached are dated from 1947-59.
