The ancient Greeks believed amethyst prevented intoxication, so they created wearable drinking goblets, believing the cups would help maintain their sobriety.

Current day belief holds that amethyst has many healing properties including aiding with calm, tranquility and grounding. All of which can contribute to sobriety.
