Shields

The Art of Protection

Initially, utilitarian objects that were a crucial element of defense, shields became so sophisticated and imaginatively crafted that they came to be seen as works of art. While a shield's main purpose was for combat, it is also an object for extravagant display, communicating through its visual power.

“This exhibit brings together 20 shields of distinguished provenance from the indigenous cultures of Africa, Asia, and Oceania. For the serious collector of tribal art, it is a rare opportunity to see these objects in one place. For interior designers, the shields in this exhibit are just the thing for clients desiring one-of-a-kind pieces for home or office décor.”

Today when no longer in the hands of warriors, shields still carry their power — into our homes, our walls, our living spaces, where their energy endures.
